Multiplying Connections Develops Core Professional Competencies

Recognizing that translating what we know about the impact of trauma on children into effective practice requires professional training, the Multiplying Connections Cross System Training Institute has developed core competencies for children’s services professionals to provide effective trauma-informed and developmentally-appropriate services to young children and their families.

This unique compendium of trauma-informed competencies is designed to cut across disciplines and roles within children’s service systems. To ensure the integrity of this work, Multiplying Connections engaged in a multi-pronged process which included a thorough review of published professional competencies in mental health, child welfare, trauma-informed practice, developmentally appropriate practice, early childhood education and public health, a facilitated process with the CSTI to identify which of these multi-disciplinary competencies are most relevant to their systems and a three-phase review of the competencies by a national advisory board of trauma and child development experts.
